One the most popular trends blossoming in Los Angeles within the last couple months is the wedged sneaker! Brightly colored and precisely stitched in a varieties of styles, this fashionable yet sensible footwear has swept over LA and becoming the most popular thing to wear. Found in many of my favorite stores, including Urban Outfitters, Nordstrom and Aldo, this trend is one that everyone can’t seem to get enough of! Many household names such as Beyonce, Nicki Minaj and Miranda Kerr have been spotted rocking these newly founded shoes. From A-List celebrities to college students, however, everyone seems to be getting in on this original and fun shoe whirlwind! A personal favorite pair of mine are the ones shown above by Steven Madden in the latest Spring 2013 collection. Sold at Nordstrom, not only are they chic and comfortable, they’re affordable too! I already own two pairs and am constantly searching for my next. They are super easy to dress up for a nice dinner or simple enough to dress down for just hanging out with some friends! If you’re looking for a way to keep in touch with some of the trends sweeping through L.A. right now, the wedged sneaker is the best way to start!

V&H’s Top 5 Eateries in Los Angeles:

  • There’s no better way to start off the weekend then with great food and good company! First Fridays on Abbott Kinney is one of my favorite places, occurring on the first Friday of every month and located in Venice, this is always an entertaining and delicious way to go.
  • If you don’t mind a bit of a drive, nothing can compare to the cupcakes and Ice cream combinations found at Sprinkles Cupcakes. Located in Beverly Hills off La Cienega Blvd. this bakery is quite the satisfying delight!
  • An all time favorite is Mendocino Farms. Having a variety of locations, in marina waterside shopping center, LMU students seem to love the organic sandwich market!
  • If you’re looking for reasonably priced delicious sushi, my new obsession is Hara Sushi in Santa Monica! Quaint and underrated this restaurant is the place to go if you’re looking for a fun place that serves great food without swarms if people.
  • Last but not least, my personal favorite for breakfast, lunch and dinner, would have to be Urth Cafe. This all-organic eatery has some of the best pastries and sandwiches I have tried in the Los Angeles area. Located in Santa Monica makes it close in proximity and being on a budget its one that won’t break the bank!

For all the lady’s reading todays post, I wanted to focus today’s post on the lovely Santa Monica Promenade. In the heart of my favorite city, this shopping center is filled with a variety of stores ranging from Brandy Melville to Nordstrom to Forever 21, it has all of your shopping needs in one convenient place! In a perfect location over looking the ocean and famous Santa Monica Pier, this center is not only a place to shop but to hang out with friends, grab dinner at one of the many delicious restaurants and watch a stunning sunset as the day fades to night. At night the Promenade also has many entertaining facets such as two movie theaters, bars and a light up Ferris Wheel! As one who loves the beach and is an avid shopper, I always find myself enthralled with the shops and sights Santa Monica has to offer. Whether shopping with friends or on a date, the Promenade is one place that everyone will love!

Yummy Eats of Manhattan Beach by H. Chisholm

For this post I would like to give you all a couple of really great food options for the next time you find yourself in Manhattan Beach. There is a new place on Manhattan Ave. called Paradise Bowls. The LMU Swimming team happens to be obsessed with it! It is a mix of acai and pataya bowls, and they also have a great smoothie menu! If you ever are feeling like a light, cold, fruity meal this should be your stop! The Kettle on Highland Ave. is our favorite spot for breakfast. Each meal comes with 2 of their freshly made muffins that are to die for! The menu is miles long and features too many options to choose from. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner 24 hours a day here at The Kettle so when in doubt stop at The Kettle! Lastly, I would like to tell you about The Creamery also located on Manhattan Ave! If you are in the mood for some homemade ice cream or chocolate covered bananas on a hot, beach day this is your place! You can also find some great cupcakes and lots of candy so stop in when you have a sweet tooth! All three of these places are just a couple blocks from the Manhattan Beach Pier!

Love of the Outdoors by H.Chisholm

18 Mar

Welcome to Victoria and Hailey’s LA Lifestyle blog. We attend Loyola Marymount University in Marina Del Rey, and we want to give you a glimpse of what it’s like living in one of the greatest cities in the world! Being a swimmer, I spend most of my time outdoors so I will blog a lot about the active/outdoor life in LA. Living in Los Angeles is a unique experience because we have everything in the local area when it comes to the outdoors. In one day you could be surfing in the Pacific, hiking to the Hollywood sign, and skiing in Big Bear. This is one of the most special characteristics of this gigantic city. We are lucky to have so many options when it comes to exploring the outdoors here in Southern California. Every climate is just a short drive away, and you can find people in LA that enjoy all sorts of outdoors activities. My favorite that our swim team did was the Malibu hike to the waterfall! Even though sometimes it feels like we are trapped on campus or in a concrete jungle, we can still find ways to escape, and find peace of mind with the world around us. This is why Los Angeles is the greatest city.
